Benzocaine is the active ingredient of Dentispray, a local anaesthetic for topical use.

Follow exactly the administration instructions for the medicine contained in the package leaflet or those indicated by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose is: Adults and adolescents: 1 application. Apply to the area to be treated 3 or 4 times a day. Do not apply more than 4 times a day. Each spray is equivalent to approximately 3 mg of benzocaine. Children aged 6-12 years: only under adult supervision, apply as above. Children aged 2-6 years: under medical supervision. Children under 2 years of age: under strict medical supervision.

Method of administration: This medicine is for use in the mouth. Do not inhale or swallow. Remove the cap from the bottle and fit the actuator, with the applicator cannula attached, onto the outlet tube of the metering pump. Press the actuator several times until the pump is primed. The medicine can then be applied either directly, by pressing the actuator and pointing the cannula so that the solution is directed towards the painful area, or by soaking a piece of cotton wool with several sprays and holding it on the area for a short period of time. Once treatment is finished, it is recommended to rinse the cannula with water, dry it and store it. If symptoms worsen or persist after 2 days of treatment, you should consult your dentist.

Dentispray comes in a 5 mL bottle with a metering pump and an applicator cannula to make it easy to apply directly to the painful areas of the mouth.

If you are intolerant to other local anaesthetics such as para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), parabens or para-phenylenediamine (a component of hair dye). If you have any serious or extensive lesion in the mouth. Do not take doses higher than recommended. Elderly people who are ill or debilitated should consult their doctor before using this medicine, as they are more sensitive to its possible adverse reactions. Avoid spraying into the eyes. Do not inhale or swallow. You should not eat or drink while the mouth remains numb, due to the risk of biting your tongue or the lining of your mouth and of choking. Keep away from fire or flames. Do not smoke during application.
